I’m New Here

Dear Friends in Christ,

“You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 9).

This written witness of our patron, the Apostle Peter, reminds us why – after some two thousand years – Christians continue to gather in the name of Christ to pray. Baptized into His Paschal Mystery, we, the Body of Christ, are witnesses to His ministry which continues to this day. We recall that Mystery every day of our lives and on Sunday – The Lord’s Day – in the Eucharistic celebration (Mass).

The Catechism of the Catholic Church offers this description of a parish: “ [The parish] is the place where all the faithful can be gathered together for the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist. The parish initiates the Christian people into the ordinary expression of the liturgical life: it gathers them together in this celebration; it teaches Christ’s saving doctrine; it practices the charity of the Lord in good works and brotherly love (CCC, 2179).”

It is our prayer that our parish community will always be a place where we can gather to worship, to celebrate our beliefs, and to share the living experience of the Body of Christ through our various ministries of service.

We strive to welcome visitors, to express our religion in the sacramental tradition, to educate our children in the ways of faith and evangelize our community. As we look to the early Church community for the example, we are bound to charity, dialogue, and respecting one another.

May the Lord in His gracious love and mercy sustain you in your journey of faith! Welcome to St. Peter’s Parish, Mansfield, Ohio!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Very Rev. Gregory R. Hite, V.F.
