Congratulations to Lillian Neuyen!
She was the winner of the school spelling bee today for grades 4-6. Lillian and seven other students pictured below–Leah Allen, Daniel Congdon, Katie Elliott, Leah Fanello, Emily Ghazarian, Olivia Togliatti, and Zoe Blank– qualified for today’s competition through a computerized test that all students completed at the beginning of this school year. Lillian will now complete another computerized spelling test in an attempt to qualify for regional competition at Ohio University in Athens in March. The winner of that competition moves on to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., later this school year.
These students will also continue to practice weekly with practice coach, Mrs. Linda Sharp, who also moderated the spelling bee today. Of those eight students and those in junior high who qualified for the school spelling bee, some will be selected for the Richland County Spelling Bee, another competition held in the spring.
Thank you, also, to Mrs. Rizzo and Mrs. Pennell who assisted as judges in the spelling bee today.
Congratulations to these students who showed great fortitude during the competition and great sportsmanship when the competition was completed. As a special treat, all eight enjoyed snacks afterwards in the cafeteria with Mr. Smith!
