In 1868, St. Peter’s School had its beginnings in a home behind the First St. Peter’s church. Since that time the school has grown in different ways, but one thing has stayed the same — a challenging academic environment based on Catholic spirituality and service.
Starting in 1871, and lasting more than a century, the Sisters of St. Francis of Joliet staffed the school as faculty and principals. They served the parish community until 2016.
As the population of Mansfield grew, so did the student body. In its early years, the school educated students until the 8th grade. In 1924, the school was expanded to include grades 9-12. Then in 1976, the Montessori preschool started.
During our 150 year history, the school has occupied several buildings. Our current elementary building opened in 1926 and the high school/junior high building opened in 1958.
Today, our student-body is diverse with small class sizes, which allow our faculty to provide personal attention to our students.

Graduation at St. Peter’s School is a culmination of their success in our program. A student can spend up to 15 years attending St. Peter’s School. More than 95% of our students continue their learning in college or enter military service, earning millions of dollars in college scholarships each year.
St. Peter’s School alumni have made an impact locally, nationally, and across the globe. From business owners to leading professionals in their respective fields, many of our graduates credit the foundation they received at St. Peter’s. Our faculty and staff include several graduates who have found their calling to teach the next generation of leaders.
