Peace Jam Conference took place at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI, April 13-14. Featured Nobel Peace Laureate was Shirin Ebadi. Dawn Engle, co-founder of Peace Jam was also at the Conference. Nine Junior and Senior students participated. The group from St. Peter’s High School presented their recent Child Abuse Prevention projects at the Conference.
During the weekend, Mrs. Chengelis and her students participated in Family groups, workshops, service projects, and heard Shirin speak and answer questions. The dinner banquet highlighted typical food from Iran (Shirin’s native country), and entertainment was provided by the Persian Culture Club at WMU with folk dances and music. At the end of the Conference Shirin gave every one a green bracelet to wear in Solidarity with the grassroots “Green Movement” by young people in Iran seeking democracy.
