On Wednesday, May 1, seniors wore their gowns for the first time to take part in the May Crowning ceremony at noon in St. Peter’s Church. This year’s ceremony marks the 81st anniversary of the May Crowning at St. Peter’s.
Ten members of the senior class were elected by their classmates for May Court. Members of the court include Lloydann Daley (queen), Joey Barretta (queen’s escort), Janay Saunders, Carline Amalfitano, Shannon Butler, Randa Payne, Bobby Cowen, Hayden Eighinger, Alex Blunk and John Tomchak.
Seniors Morgan Depinet and DaPria Owens sang a beautiful rendition of “Ave Maria”, accompanied by Mr. Bill Johnson. Also honored at the May Crowning were Sister Paula Bingert and Mary Sansalone, both members of the SPHS Class of 1943. Sister Paula Bingert crowned Mary during the May Crowning ceremony in 1943 and Mary Sansalone was a member of the court. During the ceremony on Wednesday, they were presented with a bouquet of white flowers. (Photos provided by Kathy Morris)
