Ms. Sarah Johnson and her second graders enjoyed talking about the 2014 Olympics this past week and Ms. Johnson had an especially exciting story to tell them.
Back in 2002, Ms. Johnson’s grandmother was nominated and selected to carry the Winter Olympics torch for a short distance during its trip through the Cleveland area. Those who carry the torch for any Olympics are given a stand and their torch to keep once the flame has been passed on.
Ms. Johnson shared this with the class as well as the hat and gloves that her grandmother wore that day back in 2002. She also had photos and the newspaper article that appeared in the Cleveland newspaper .
Our friends at Richland Source also covered the story. Click here to read!
