Boston Strong!

On Friday, April 17, St. Peter’s Montessori and Elementary students and staff had the go ahead from the city to close the streets off for a benefit Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 2-mile run.

Teachers, parents, and grandparents walked or ran with the students and even more volunteered to patrol streets and intersections and the finish line!  St. Peter’s High School and Junior High students were also there to cheer on the students as they finished the run.

All monies collected were donated to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.  Kristin Nemeth Husty ’96, elementary school physical education teacher, and her husband, Eric, both ran the Boston Marathon this past Monday.  Eric runs ultra marathons so even though he’s not a qualifier runner, he was selected by the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to run Boston with Kristin and raise money for cancer research.  Kristin said it was the hardest marathon they’ve ever ran with the rain and wind and cold.

Kristin has been training students in the physical education classes here at school so they would be ready for the 2-mile run/walk this past Friday.  100% of the money raised goes directly to his cause . . . a cause very close to Kristin’s and Eric’s hearts since Kristin had colon cancer in 2008.  St. Peter’s Elementary School raised $2,500 and Eric raised over $5,000.

Thank you to Kristin and her inspiration to all of us.  Thank you, also, to Mrs. Kristy Hatfield for these wonderful Boston Strong photos!  Thank you to the City of Mansfield and the Mansfield Police Department for their invaluable assistance for this event!

Our friends at RICHLAND SOURCE have a great story about this.  Read it here.
