Congratulations to all the junior high students who competed in the Ohio Music Education Association District 10 Junior High School Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event at Northmor High School on April 18.
Both Mr. Friend and Mrs. Turner said the students represented St. Peter’s in an outstanding manner. Special congratulations to Emily Raff, Chase Smith and Alexandra Wasylenki who received a rating of Superior.
Chase sang the folk song “Give Me a Wings” and Emily sang “Panis Angelicus”. Alexandra Wasylenki, received a Superior rating performing a violin solo “Sicilienne& Rigaudon”.
Daniel Congdon received an excellent rating performing “English Suite” as a trumpet solo. Daniel Congdon, Bryce Dix, and Teagan Allen received an excellent rating performing “Two for Three”, a trumpet trio. Because one of another trio needed to cancel at the last minute, the other two–Kevin Maxwell (clarinet) and Rowan Pruettmiller (flute) received comments instead of a rating. They performed “March of the Toy Soldiers”.
From Mr. Friend: “This event is wonderful for the students. They get to rehearse and perform either a solo or ensemble, they have the opportunity to meet other students at the event, and they also perform in front of an adjudicator (judge) who is an expert on their particular instrument. The adjudicator listens and writes helpful comments that each student can use to improve. All the students who attended this year want to go back and do it again and Mr. Friend says they all had a very positive experience. One other thing solo and ensemble does is put each student on the line. Almost all get nervous about performing but that, in turn, teaches them how to deal with stressful situations. They take their nerves and channel them into their performance.”
