Spartans roll McComb, advance to Elite 8

IMG_6107BOWLING GREEN – The Spartans boys basketball team advanced to the OHSAA Division IV Elite 8 with a double-digit win over McComb High School 68-50 on Tuesday night at the Stroh Center.

The Spartans stayed poised on the big stage jumping out to lead 15-9 after the first quarter.  Four Spartans scored in the double digits and were led by Jared Jakubick with 16 points, including a three-point shot at the buzzer going into halftime.  Both Mason Campbell and Elijah Cobb had 14 points in the game while Kyle Osgar had 13.

The Spartans kept the heat on in the second half, never letting McComb get within seven points.  In the 4th quarter, the Spartans stretched the lead to as many as 22 points.  The Spartans were just too fast for McComb with 16 points off turnovers and another eight off fast breaks.

The Spartans will face in Van Wert Lincolnview in the Regional Finals on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Stroh Center.  Lincolnview finished the regular season ranked #1 in the AP Division IV Coaches Poll.
