Butterflies

The third grade class has been working on a butterfly unit.  They ordered caterpillars that were 1/2 inch long,  journaled how much they grew, how much they ate, and how they were making webs.  Then they watched them turn into the chrysalis and when they started to hatch, they sat and watched them.  The fifth grade students watched for more than 30 minutes while the chrysalis were trying to hatch. Every day, the students who came into the room would look at the garden to see how many hatched.  They were so excited and in the end, they had eight out of 10 emerge.  They kept them for a week and let them fly away.

Thank you to Mrs. Karen Kassimer for this information and these photos.
