Sixth Graders Study Properties of Matter

Students in Mrs. James’ 6th grade science classes are learning about the properties of matter, specifically about mixtures. Students investigated mixtures in water bottles (such as coffee and water, oil and water, sugar and water).  They made glurch and oobleck, both of which are colloids (a type of mixture).  Students had a great time investigating the properties of these two colloids.  Oobleck is a special type of colloid known as a non-Newtonian fluid and has properties of both a liquid and a solid.  Thank you to Mrs. James and Ms. Unger for sending this information and photos.
