Future computer programmers! Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) is an annual program dedicated to inspiring K-12 students to take interest in computer science. Originally conceived by the Computing in the Core coalition, Code.org® organizes CSEdWeek as a grassroots campaign supported by 350 partners and 100,000 educators worldwide. The Hour of Code is a part of CSEdWeek and encourages teachers to offer to students a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming.
As part of this global movement known as “Hour of Code”, St. Peter’s Elementary School students focused this past week on computer science via the use of Ozobot Evo robots obtained through a Richland County Foundation TAP grant. Preschool and kindergarten students learned the basics of block coding using the Google Santa Tracker website, while older students programmed Evo robots and learned to animate text using the Scratch programming language. Students will continue to focus on programming skills throughout the month of December.
Mrs. James is awesome and she sent us photos of some of her students doing a coding project during the Hour of Code.
Go Spartans!
