Hello St. Peter’s School Parents:
This is a very important letter and it will save some of our St. Peter’s School families a lot of tuition money. If your family has not been eligible in the past for the EdChoice scholarship, this letter will explain how you might be eligible now!
The provision of a quality education is an expensive endeavor. St. Peter’s School has made every effort to contain costs and strives to provide access to the school by supporting those who would otherwise not be able to attend. For a child whose parents are committed to a Catholic education, St. Peter’s will make every effort to ensure availability and affordability.
As you know, in addition to helping parents through tuition payment plans, Annual Fund assistance, and St. Peter’s School internal scholarship programs (Regina’s Kids, Sam Tridico Memorial), St. Peter’s School is also a “provider school” in the State of Ohio School Scholarship Programs.
The State of Ohio School Choice Scholarship Programs affect many families here at St. Peter’s School and include:
Educational Choice Scholarship (EdChoice) which provides scholarships to students who attend the state’s lowest rated public schools. EdChoice scholarships can be used toward tuition at the participating private/parochial school of their choice, upon acceptance to that school.
EdChoice Expansion Scholarship (based on family income) The Income-Based Scholarship Program is an expansion of the EdChoice Scholarship Program that provides scholarships to students from eligible families when the family’s income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship for a student in grades K-12 with a current Individualized Education Program (IEP) from their home school district is eligible to apply.
Autism Scholarship for a child age three to 21 who is on the autism spectrum and has an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
THESE NEXT PARAGRAPHS ARE VERY IMPORTANT
Even though the information that follows affects only students who will be in grades 9-12 for the 2019-2020 school year, we want to inform ALL St. Peter’s School families so they are aware of this change.
In past years, the Educational Choice (EdChoice) scholarship was available only to students attending failing public schools. In the past, students enrolled at St. Peter’s were NOT eligible to apply, even though they lived in a public school district and would be assigned to a failing public school.
There is big news on EdChoice eligibility of which we were notified just last week.
Students in grades 9-12 for the 2019-2020 school year who are currently attending public or private schools (St. Peter’s High School) and who would be assigned to a high school that is on the EdChoice Designated Schools list are now eligible.
Mansfield Senior High School is on the list of EdChoice Designated Schools so your child is eligible for the EdChoice scholarship if: (1) you live in the Mansfield City School district and (2) your child would be assigned to Mansfield Senior High School if they were not here at St. Peter’s High School
The State of Ohio Department of Education states this opportunity as follows: “This pathway was put into law a few years ago, but because of Safe Harbor, its effective date was put on hold. ODE (Ohio Department of Education) has now confirmed that this high school student eligibility will be in effect for this fall, giving families the opportunity to apply during the July 2019 application period.”
The application period at St. Peter’s for this EdChoice scholarship begins now and continues through Friday, July 26. We will be hosting two meetings to further explain this scholarship opportunity and to help parents with the application process.
Parents can attend a meeting in the Atrium of the Franciscan Activity Center on:
Tuesday, June 25, from 6:00-6:30 p.m. OR Sunday, July 7, from 2:00-2:30 p.m.
