Penny War raises money for Humane Society

As part of Catholic Schools Week, students in the elementary building faced off in a Penny War – each class gave their loose change to help support the Humane Society of Richland County.  The competition raised $575 that will help support homeless animals in our community.

The winner of the Penny War was determined by which class brought in the most coins by weight.  A Nickle, for example, was worth more than a dime in this competition.  The weight of a Nickle is 5.0 grams versus a Dime, which is only 2.268 grams.

Students watched the official weigh-in via Zoom, with the second-grade class taking the victory and earning an out-of-dress code day.
