Dear St. Peter’s School Families,

Good afternoon and Happy Monday!

As always, the safety of our school community remains a top priority here at St. Peter’s, and we will do everything we can to keep our students, teachers, and staff members safe and healthy. According to the weather forecast for the next few days, the heat index is rising to a level that could put our faculty, staff, and students at risk.  Our unairconditioned buildings retain the heat, and even with strong fans, the higher floors are extremely hot. I am particularly concerned about our littlest learners, who are the most vulnerable, as their bodies are less able to adapt to excessive heat than adults.

With this in mind, school will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, August 24th, and most likely on Wednesday, August 25th as well. While I am rarely a proponent of closing school, good sense, compassion, and safety, require us to make this difficult decision. Recognizing that this decision impacts childcare, transportation, and other aspects of family life, we are trying to be as proactive as possible, so families can plan accordingly. We hope the weather breaks tomorrow, and school can be in session on Wednesday, but given the forecast of mid-90-degree temperatures, that may not be the case. We will send an official notice by noon tomorrow regarding the status of school on Wednesday.

If you are a new family to St. Peter’s, I encourage you to sign up for our SpartanAlert! messaging system.  This system provides text messages and email alerts to parents for school closings and other urgent school information.  The link can be found on our website in the parent portal. mansfieldstpeters.org/parents.

Once again, I thank you for your patience and flexibility as we navigate this school year together, knowing that through faith and grace, we will continue to make the best decisions for our school community.
