For a recent project in Miss Campbell’s math class, high school students were asked to build a house to scale based on blueprints they prepared and present a PowerPoint that included information of cost to build, roof pitch, cost to furnish all rooms, and landscaping and heating/cooling costs. There were also statistics required about the neighborhood in which the house would be built such as population, crime rate, median age, median salary, etc. That’s a lot of practical math computations–all relative to everyday encounters that homeowners experience.
We took some photos of the projects the day students presented their scale model and Powerpoint.
