Edible Lab Experiment

In this particular edible lab experiment last week with sixth graders, they used rice crispy squares to demonstrate the formation of metamorphic rocks..  Metamorphic rocks form under extreme heat (electric burner to melt marshmallows) and pressure (stirring and squeezing of the marshmallow rice crispies to form a square).  Mrs. Tara Arnold, science teacher, tell the students there is so much heat and pressure that you can actually hear  the chemical bonds breaking (sound of snap, crackle, pop) .  Once students complete the lab, they feast on the products.  In addition, the students pair up and deliver whatever they cooked up with other classes.  This gives them the opportunity to share their understanding with others.

Thank you to Mrs. Arnold for this information.
