They just keep on keepin’ on!
The SPHS Academic Challenge teams, both Varsity and Junior Varsity, placed extremely well in last week’s MOESC tournament.
From moderators Mrs. Maryanne Chengelis and Mr. Steve Bernath, we have the following details of the competition:
VARSITY
Anthony Katsaounis, Charlie Maxwell, Brady Rice, Thomas Schlitt
JUNIOR VARSITY
Sophie Winters, Adam Ghazoul, Marrin Eighinger, Trevor Zook, Sean Loeber
“On February 22, we had two high school teams participate in the MOESC Tournament (a Varsity and a JV) held at Mid-Ohio Conference Center. There were 3 Varsity brackets. Bracket 1 consisted of teams that have already qualified for OAC state regionals. Brackets 2 and 3 were competing for qualifying spots at the OAC regionals. The SPHS Varsity won our bracket (Bracket 2) to qualify, then competed against Ontario for the tournament win. So we got two wins!
Our JV team won their bracket, but came in 2nd place after competing against Tiffin for the JV Tournament win.
Our Varsity team now qualifies for STATE REGIONALS on April 16 (There are 6 locations and we do not know yet where we will compete).
And, FYI. We will be competing on March 12 at WMFD TV Scholastic Showdown. Our first competition will be at 1:00; our opponent to be determined (we have a bye).”
