Montessori Preview Night

At St. Peter’s School Montessori preschool, our littlest learners are actively engaged in works that teach them to be responsible for their own learning.

One of the goals of Montessori preschool education is to help every child become more independent and gain a sense of responsibility for not only your child’s work but also his/her behavior.

St. Peter’s Montessori preschool preview night is a chance for prospective parents to see our school in action.  Our staff, students, and parents will be available for you to ask questions and see our students actively “at work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Montessori and traditional educaiton?

Montessori emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching, or reading.  Our Montessori students learn at their own individual pace according to their own choice of activities.

Their learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning.  This love of learning will carry on into elementary and high school.

While Montessori children are free to choose within limits, the classroom teacher and assistants ensure that each child is progressing appropriately in all subjects.

What will I see?

Not every parent can tour Montessori House during the normal school day.  Our preview night brings the Montessori experience to a time more convenient for you.

Parents will get to see firsthand what a Montessori Day looks like.  Several of our students will be demonstrating their daily “works” — independent learning with guided support.

What are works?

Equipment or “works” are part of the “prepared environment” of the Montessori classroom. The works are clean, small, and light enough for young children to move by themselves. All equipment is arranged on low visible shelves that are accessible to your child.

The easiest works are placed to the left, and the most difficult to the right, following a child’s natural progression of thought. Works are not toys but small replicas of adult work tools. Rugs allow your child to sit and work comfortably on the floor.

How do I know if my child is ready for Montessori?

Every child is different, but we expect students should be close to being fully potty trained.  (We understand accidents do happen.)  Children who are ready for preschool are capable for longer durations of concentrated work and can focus on the tasks at hand.  Respect, curiosity, the ability to take turns, and early signs of cooperation are all good signs that a child is ready for the Montessori experience.

Parents have the option of enrolling their child(ren) in one of several program options.

  • 3-day / Half Day  (AM or PM) – (M-T-W) or (W-Th-F)
  • 3-day / Full Day
  • 5-day / Half Day  (AM or PM)
  • 5-day / Full Day

Some parents elect to start their child in a 3-day program and then migrate to a 5-day once their child is comfortable.

Will the event be cancelled due to weather?

If school is canceled on the day of the event, our preview event will be canceled.  We will work with parents to schedule another time that is convenient for them.

Montessori Tuition

Parents often assume they cannot afford a Montessori education.  That is not true!  Although not a free public school education, Montessori school can be affordable and beneficial for everyone.  The cost of a five-day/full-day is on par with full-day daycare/preschool options.

St. Peter’s School does provide limited need-based financial aid to Montessori families.  We can also keep costs down through the generosity of the St. Peter’s School extended family of parishioners, parents, alumni, and friends who help ensure the school’s financial well-being through annual giving.

St. Peter’s has a proven track record of developing students who have a lifelong love of learning and become exceptional and successful adults.

Reserving Your Childs Seat

Our Montessori seats fill quickly – especially for our most coveted time slots.   To guarantee your child’s seat, you’ll need to register and pay your child’s non-refundable registration fee as soon as possible.

If a program is full, you can always select a different program option or be placed on a waitlist.
