Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Families,
On Tuesday, June 3, 2014, we will celebrate our eighth graders with a Mass for them and their parents in St. Peter’s Church at 6:30 p.m. We want to celebrate their transition from junior high to high school. This Mass planned for Tuesday, June 3, will be the eighth grade graduation Mass. Students will wear graduation gowns and will process into Church escorted by their parents. The eighth graders who successfully complete their academic year will receive diplomas.
Again, as has become our custom, the eighth graders will be wearing gowns during the Liturgy and ceremonies taking place in the Church. Students should arrive for the Liturgy by 6:00 p.m. and proceed to the area of the servers’ sacristy to pick up their gowns. The servers’ sacristy is just inside the ramp door of the Church. If the weather permits, students will then line up in alphabetical order with their parent(s) on the sidewalk next to the Church. In case of inclement weather, students and parents will gather in the Church basement. We are organizing students and parents in this way so that they may process into Mass together. Parents will escort their daughters and sons to their pews at the front of the Church. The students will take their seats and the parents will then circle back to join the rest of their families in other seats in the Church. In other words, the eighth graders sit together as a class.
Even though students are wearing gowns for this occasion, specific dress code guidelines will be in place. Students should dress up for this occasion, keeping our school’s dress code standards in mind with regard to good taste and modesty. Gentlemen are to wear dress pants along with a dress shirt and tie. Ladies may wear dress slacks, dresses or skirts appropriate for the occasion (near-knee length, no bare midriffs or shoulders, no low necklines or extremely tight clothing). Shorts, t-shirts, etc. and athletics shoes are not appropriate for this occasion. It is not necessary to purchase new clothing for eighth grade graduation.
Following the Mass, there will be an opportunity to photograph the class. If the weather is nice, we’ll use the Church steps. If we have rain, we’ll take our pictures inside the Church on the altar steps. After pictures, students will return their gowns to the servers’ sacristy area. Then, please plan to enjoy a cake and punch reception in the school cafeteria.
